The coronavirus epidemic in West Bengal was first confirmed on 17 March 2020, with the first positive case reported in Kolkata. As of 13 April 2020, the state has reported 152 COVID-19 positive cases, including 116 active cases, 7 deaths and 29 recoveries.

4 February: A passenger was evacuated from the Kolkata airport from the hospital. He was later tested negative. March 17: On March 15, an 18-year-old male who returned from the UK had a positive test. March 20: A male, aged 22, who returned from Britain on March 13, was tested positive. March 21: A 23-year-old woman who returned from Scotland on March 19 tested positive. March 22: A 57-year-old male admitted to a private facility in North Kolkata tested positive. March 23: The first COVID-19 death was reported as the private facility of a 57-year-old male patient was terminated. He was a railwayman and recently came from Bilaspur. Two men (48 years and 20 years) and one woman (47 years), who were in direct contact with a positive case, tested positive. March 24: A 58-year-old male returned from Egypt and a 55-year-old female returned from the UK tested positive. March 26: Tested positive for a male aged 66 years admitted in a private facility in South Kolkata. March 27: One male (aged 11) and four females (aged 27, 45, 6 and 9 months), all belonging to a close group of siblings and relatives, tested positive. She was exposed to a positive case in Delhi, which came from the UK on 16 March. March 28: Two women, aged 76 and 56, hail from Agra in East Midnapore district of South Bengal, while the third, a 54-year-old, is from Kalimpong in Darjeeling district of North Bengal. He said that two women from East Midnapore district are relatives of an elderly man from Nayabad who also tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital here. They attended a wedding ceremony in Agra where an elderly person was also present. They were currently housed in the isolation ward of a hospital in Agra. March 29: A 44-year-old woman who was admitted to a government hospital in Kalimpong on March 28 and found a positive history of traveling to Thailand and Kerala. March 30: A 44-year-old woman from Kalimpong district died in a government hospital in Siliguri. Another 48-year-old woman, who succumbed to severe respiratory illness at a government hospital in Howrah, was later found to have positive COVID-19. March 31: A male, aged 57 and has severe acute respiratory illness, ends up in a private facility in Howrah. He was tested positive. Total death toll at the end of the month 4. April 01: A male, aged 57, kidney failure and a male, aged 62, hypertension and other co-morbid conditions, expired early in the morning. Both tests were reportedly positive, which is confirmed.
